Amrep was formed in 1979 when Aero Mist, Inc. of Marietta, Georgia and Research Products Company, Inc. of Dallas, Texas merged. Both Aero Mist and Research Products began operations in the mid 1960s. Combining the complete line of Aero Mist aerosols and the broad line of liquid products offered by Research Products, Amrep was immediately recognized as a full line manufacturer of packaged specialty chemical products. In 1986, Amrep acquired Arrow Greases and Lubes of Dallas, Texas and became one of the leading manufacturers in the country of these specialty products. The acquisition reinforced the industrial focus of the organization and allowed for additional growth into this market. In 1987, the acquisition of MBL Industries of Santa Ana, California provided access to additional janitorial products as well as aerosol capacity. With this West Coast presence, Amrep truly became a national supplier to the Industrial and Institutional marketplace. In 2000, Amrep acquired Petro Chemical of Jacksonville, Florida, Petro had become a premier supplier of aerosols, pourable additive products and unique support services to the Automotive Aftermarket. Petro was combined with Amrep's Automotive Products Group to become one of the largest in the industry. In 2002, Amrep acquired the herbicide business from Frank Miller & Sons of Chicago, Illinois. Amrep has long been an herbicide producer and supplier for Industrial and Institutional grounds maintenance. Combining the two brings more products and capabilities together to lead the industry in this category. Amrep has always been viewed as a leading edge technology producer of specialty chemical technology.
